It’s easy to write a book.

Simple, really. The hard part? Writing a good book. There’s lots of good advice and not-so-good advice out there on the internet, but I’ve learned there are three simple, universal tips that we all can learn from. In my quest for understanding, I took it upon myself to ask two of the modern-day Deities of writing. Here is what Brandon Sanderson and Hugh Howie told me in person when I asked them how to make it as an author:

Brandon: “Keep writing.”
Hugh: “Keep writing new books.”

There you go. My tips #1 and #2. #3? Read like it’s your job. Read for pleasure, read for learning, and always let your subconscious analyze what does and does not work for you.
